From Our Director

When visiting a Montessori classroom for the first time, you might wonder what magical spell has been cast upon these children causing them to be so calm and self-directed. Others might be confused by the children’s independence, wondering where the discipline and structure are — why are these children allowed to do as they please? As a Montessori teacher I’ve heard it all, from “Montessori is too free and chaotic!” or “Montessori is too structured!” The Montessori philosophy varies in interpretation from school to school, teacher to teacher, and parent to parent. Some Montessori classrooms are very strict and adult controlled, and others are disorganized and anything goes. But Montessori, when done well, is a beautiful blend and balance of freedom and structure.
